1. What is Razumab?

Razumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody fragment designed for intraocular use to treat retinal disorders like wet age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic macular edema and myopic choroidal neovascularization.


2. How does Razumab works?

Razumab binds to a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). It inhibits the action of VEGF and the growth of abnormal blood vessels in the eye. These abnormal blood vessels are responsible for the loss of vision as they cause leakage into the retina.


3. What is Razumab used for?

Razumab is approved to treat wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It is also used to treat macular edema due to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) or branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO), Myopic choroidal neovascularization and diabetic macular edema due to diabetic retinopathy.


4. What are the possible side effects of Razumab?

Razumab may cause infection and inflammation in the eye, retinal detachment and cataract. Other side effects include:

  • Redness and pain in the eye
  • Blurring of vision
  • Itching of eyes
  • Foreign body sensation in the eye

5. What are the serious side effects that you must immediately inform your doctor?

If your eye develops redness, pain, sensitive to light or if you observe a change in vision, inform your doctor immediately.


6. What precautions you should take when taking Razumab treatment? What do you need to tell the doctor before taking this Razumab drug?
  • Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Razumab or if you have any other allergies.
  • Inform your doctor regarding your medical history, especially of: a current eye infection, stroke or heart attack
  • Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
  • There are chances that Razumab may cause dizziness and blurring of vision. So you should not drive or use machinery. You should also restrict alcoholic beverages.
  • If you are pregnant or breast feeding, then discuss the risks and benefits of this medicine with your doctor.

7. What are the contraindications of Razumab ?

Razumab is contraindicated in patients with ocular or periocular infections or in patients with known hypersensitivity to razumab or any of the excipients in Razumab.


8. Which significant information should you know about Razumab ?
  • You should not take razumab if you are allergic to it, or if you have any type of infection in or around your eyes.
  • Inform your doctor regarding your medical history, especially of: a current eye infection, glaucoma, stroke or heart attack.
  • You should immediately inform or see your doctor if you have sudden vision problems like eye pain, any type of discharge from the eye, seeing flashes of light or moving dark spots in your vision, sudden numbness or weakness in your body, sudden severe headache or problems with speech or balance of the body.
  • You must be aware that the timing of your monthly injections is very significant for the effectiveness of this drug.

9.What will happen in case you miss a dose of Razumab ?

You should immediately inform or see your doctor if you miss to receive your razumab injection.


10. What will happen in case you take overdose of Razumab ?

Chances of overdose are rare as this drug is given by the doctor. However, doses as high as 2 mg razumab in 0.05 mL have been administered to patients and there were no additional unexpected adverse reactions.
